Welcome to class. Knowing how to access and use the Internet is essential
for college students today. In fact, more and more jobs are requiring people
to have and use their Internet skills. By attending class regularly and working
on the assignments, you will feel more comfortable accessing and utilizing
the Internet.
- Make sure you log in on the computer every time you come to the High Tech
Center. Your grade for this class will be either Credit or No Credit based
on your attendance in the High Tech Center and upon the number of units you
have. For example, if enrolled in 1 unit you would need to log a total of 36
hours by the end of the semester.
- This class will meet once a week. Expect to put in at least 50 minutes of
lab time per week. During lab time you can work on the assignments and/or practice
the skills you learned in class.
- Please be on time to class. If you know you are going to be late beforehand,
please let me know if possible. You can call the High Tech Center at 476-4557.
- If you miss a class meeting, you will have to make up the time and get the
class notes and assignment from the class Web site: http://hightech.redwoods.edu/internet
- You may want to schedule some time with your instructor to go over the class
notes and assignment(s). Ask one of the instructors in the High Tech Center
to make an appointment.
- You will be expected to complete a pretest and post test for this class.
- You will need one or two 3½ inch floppy diskettes for this class. As an alternative, you may choose to use a flash/usb/memory stick.
- Please try your best to complete each assignment within one week (by next
class). If you have trouble completing your assignment, please drop by the
High Tech Center for assistance. I work in the High Tech Center Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday 11:30am-3:30pm.
- Please turn off any cell phones and/or beepers during class time. These can
be very disruptive when people are trying to listen and concentrate.
- Remember that the Internet is to be used for school work only. Thus Internet
chat, instant messaging, and listening to net radio are not allowed. Because
this is a public place, please refrain from visiting Web sites which may be
offensive to others.
